What programs does GMP offer that support renewable energy in Vermont?
Cow Power is a renewable energy initiative that converts the methane by-product from cow waste into electricity. By opting into the program, you help Vermont dairy farmers purchase generators that run on methane from cow manure, increase renewable energy generated in the region, and provide incentives for farmers to get into the business of producing Cow Power.
GreenerGMP increases the portion of GMP’s power supply mix that is obtained from new Vermont renewable sources. Your purchases from GreenerGMP support energy made from local cows, water, wind, trash, wood and the sun.
- Residential customers can choose to have Green Mountain Power designate renewable resources equal to 25 percent, 50 percent, 75 percent or even 100 percent of your monthly use.
- Commercial customers can choose to have Green Mountain Power designate renewable resources equal to any multiple of 10 percent of your monthly use.
- The additional premium for GreenerGMP is three cents per kilowatthour (subject to change, if approved by the Public Service Board).
