Green Mountain Power Recertified as a B Corp

Green Mountain Power (GMP) recently received recertification by the nonprofit B Lab as a B Corp. We’re very proud of this news, as it means we’ve done solid work in areas that are really important to all of us at GMP. It means that we can demonstrate accomplishments and ongoing commitment in four areas: environment, employees, community and governance. In other words, we can help create a better world by concentrating on the right things. Like other B Corps, we believe that business can be a force for good.

Just over three years have passed since we were recognized as the first utility in the world to become a Certified B Corp. This year, we upped our game—our B Lab report showed we’re using even more renewable energy, helping our customers use less energy and reduce carbon by assisting with heat pumps, home batteries and other innovative energy savers. And we have even more women in leadership positions.

This year brought other good news as well. Since we received our first B Corp certification, the number of B Corps in Vermont has grown significantly–from 21 to a whopping 31*. As a Vermonter, I’m proud that our state has created a business environment where organizations can focus on creating stronger communities, higher-quality jobs, and a healthy environment. I like to think that being good and doing good breeds more goodness, so I bet we’ll see even more Green Mountain State B Corps in the future.

*The 31 Certified B Corps in Vermont are: Advance Humanity, Ben & Jerry’s, Bluestone Life, Business Culture Consultants, Cabot Creamery Co-Op, Chroma, Clean Ethics, Clean Yield Asset Management, Coffee Enterprises, Encore Renewable Energy, Forward Philanthropy, Gardners Supply, GreenBanc, Green Mountain Power, Image Outfitters, Image Relay, KSV, King Arthur Flour Company, LineSync Architecture, Mamava, Merritt & Merritt & Moulton, Mondo Mediaworks, Morris Consulting, Native Energy Inc., New Chapter, Rhino Foods, Seventh Generation, SunCommon, Sustain Natural, Vermont Creamery, Vermont Smoke and Cure, Watershed Coaching, and Westwood International.
