A net metering group shares the credits generated from one source, commonly a solar array, with another customer.
*Please note, as part of 2024 changes to Vermont state law, if a net metered system’s Certificate of Public Good (CPG) was filed on or after January 1, 2025, the system can only be group net metered if the plant is located on the same parcel or an adjacent parcel. For systems serving multi-family low-income tenants on non-adjacent parcels, the CPG must have been filed on or before December 31, 2025.
Group members do not have to be connected to the generation source and can be located anywhere within the GMP service area.
Shared credits can be split among the group members using the percent method. The purpose is to assign whatever percent was allocated to the customer’s bill each month regardless of what it takes to pay the bill to zero dollars.
Credits are applied in kwh form at the time of billing for all group members. The kwh then get applied and then monetized.
To create a new group with Green Mountain Power, please complete the Group Billing Details Form. This form only needs to be submitted to the utility.
