Don’t Miss the 2027 Vermont Writers’ Prize!

Each year, Vermont Magazine and Green Mountain Power sponsor the Vermont Writers’ Prize as a way to celebrate Vermont. The deadline to enter your poem or work of prose is January 1, 2027.

Two prizes are awarded – one for poetry and one for prose. Winners will be announced in late spring 2027 and their works will be published in the summer issue of Vermont Magazine. Each winner receives $1,250. You can read the 2026 winners for Poetry and Prose here.

How the contest works

The contest is open to Vermont residents and entries are accepted for poetry and prose categories. Your poem, short story, essay, or play should explore Vermont – its people, places, values, or history.
