GMP Urges Safety for Customers with Damaging Winds, Rain and Hail Possible
COLCHESTER, Vt. – Green Mountain Power (GMP) is reminding customers about safety and storm preparation tips as the Summer season kicks off with severe thunderstorms in the forecast. Meteorologists say the strong system will roll into Vermont from the west this afternoon, bringing a strong possibility of rain, hail and damaging winds through this evening.
“Safety is our priority and with Summer storm season here, and because severe storms can be challenging to forecast, it is always good to be prepared for severe weather and possible outages by making sure you have a fully-charged phone and working flashlights,” said Mike Burke, Vice President of Operations at GMP. “If there are downed lines or trees, customers should stay far away and call us. We track multiple forecasts days in advance so we can respond as quickly as safely possible for customers.”
GMP is reminding customers of some other useful items to have for any storm: bottled water, emergency phone numbers, and a plan of where to go if you were to need to leave your home. For medical emergencies, always call 911. You can find more storm safety tips on GMP’s website. You can report outages by calling (888) 835-4672, through GMP’s online Outage Center, and through GMP’s app.
