GMP Crews Will Respond Safely and Quickly While Following COVID-19 Health and Safety Precautions
COLCHESTER, Vt. – Green Mountain Power (GMP) is urging customers to be safe and to stay alert as forecasters call for a band of thunderstorms to roll across Vermont late this afternoon and into this evening. The National Weather Service says the storm system will bring the potential for damaging winds, heavy rain and hail which means outages are possible. GMP is watching the forecast closely and will respond as quickly and safely as possible.
“We want our customers to be safe – so they should pay close attention to the changing weather conditions this storm will bring. We are tracking multiple forecasts and volatile systems like this can be difficult for forecasters to predict,” said Mike Burke, Chief of Field Operations for GMP.
The forecast right now is calling for thunderstorms to head into western Vermont after hitting northern New York this afternoon. Forecasters say most storm activity should exit Vermont to the east by 9pm tonight.
GMP is urging safety for customers and reminding them to stay away from any downed lines or trees. Also, due to COVID-19, GMP made operations adjustments to increase safety for crews and customers including physical distancing. Crews are being dispatched to outages and other essential safety work from their homes and whenever possible, crews are traveling to work sites in separate vehicles. GMP is also encouraging customers to maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from crews, following CDC distancing guidelines for the health and safety of everyone.
GMP is reminding customers to call (888) 835-4672 to report outages and you can also report and track restoration times online.
For medical emergencies, call 911.
