Gusts as High as 74 Miles Per Hour Knocked Out Power to 15,000
RUTLAND, Vt. – Strong winds, with gusts as high as 74 miles per hour, that were not forecasted, ripped through Vermont Friday night, knocking down utility poles and cutting power to 15,000 homes and businesses. The Green Mountain Power team is responding to make repairs to the hardest hit areas including Southern Vermont, and the City of Rutland. The storm is now moving North with more damage expected.
“Our team quickly responded as the winds started. They will work as quickly and safely as possible to make repairs,” said Kristin Carlson, GMP’s Vice President of External Affairs. “GMP crews will work through the night, and because of the extensive damage it could take until Sunday to get power restored for everyone.”
GMP reminds everyone to stay away from all down power lines, as they may be live and dangerous, and be aware that downed trees could have power lines tangled in them and may also be unsafe.
“Our top priority is to keep the public safe and get the lights back on. Crews won’t stop until power is restored for all,” said Carlson.
