Storm and Wind Gusts Could Be As Strong as May 4th Storm That Led to Statewide Outages and Multi-Day Restoration
26 September 2018
COLCHESTER, Vt. – GMP is alerting customers that crews are ready to respond to possible outages this afternoon and evening as thunderstorms are forecasted to hit Vermont. Forecasters say the line of storms is ahead of a cold front and it could pack strong winds with gusts that could top 50 MPH in some spots.
The forecast is similar to the thunderstorms that hit Vermont on May 4th, when strong winds tore down trees and powerlines, impacting more than 40,000 customers. Line crews and tree crews are ready to respond if the storm causes outages. Forecasters expect the severe weather to hit northwestern Vermont starting this afternoon and it should roll out of the eastern side of the state tonight around 8pm.
“Our priority is keeping the public safe and responding quickly to get the lights back on. We continue to monitor conditions and crews are ready. We will update customers on Facebook, Twitter and media announcements,” said Kristin Kelly, GMP’s Director of Communications.
GMP is reminding customers to be safe and stay away from all downed lines or trees. Customers can report and track outages in GMP’s online Outage Center which has an interactive map with real-time details about where an outage is, when it was reported and estimated restoration times. Customers may also report outages by calling (888) 835-4672, or visiting GMP’s Outage Center page at www.greenmountainpower.com.
