Prestigious National List Honors McClure for Sustainability Leadership Work in Vermont
COLCHESTER, Vt. – Green Mountain Power’s (GMP) President and CEO Mari McClure is one of Business Insider’s Top 100 People Transforming Business in 2021, a prestigious annual list that profiles leaders across 10 sectors who are innovators, problem solvers and trend makers. Business Insider described the 2021 featured leaders as “the disrupters and thought leaders that are driving unprecedented change, both for their organizations and communities, and across the global business world.” Among the honorees are CitiGroup CEO Jane Fraser, author and historian Ibram X. Kendi, and recording artist Lil Nas X. McClure is featured in the Sustainability category.
“It is an honor and humbling to be part of such an inspiring group. I’m grateful to Business Insider for recognizing the work we are all doing in Vermont to transform the greater grid to combat climate change, encourage more cost-effective renewable energy closer to where it is used, and help communities be more resilient. This recognition inspires us at GMP to accelerate the pace of progress and keep delivering results for the customers we serve,” McClure said.
McClure has led GMP as President and CEO since January 2020 and stepped into that role after a decade of transformational leadership at GMP, including critical operations innovations and workplace culture transformation.
During her time as President and CEO, McClure has also been recognized for her innovative leadership as a Top 100 Women Impact Leader for 2021 by Real Leaders Magazine, and top 20 C-Suite Sustainability Champion by GreenBiz in 2020. This summer, she was also featured in Time Magazine’s article highlighting GMP’s pioneering work to transform the electric grid.
“Mari’s leadership is well known throughout Vermont,“ said Meg Smith, Director of the Vermont Women’s Fund. “She’s an inspiring problem solver and role model who uses her skills to effectively motivate people to work together and deliver results for Vermont.”
