Flood Watches, Wind Advisories in Effect, More Isolated Outages Possible
COLCHESTER, Vt. – Green Mountain Power (GMP) is alerting customers to changing weather conditions this evening and through the weekend, with forecasters calling for a combination of heavy rain and gusty winds that could lead to flooding and continued scattered outages. GMP has been tracking the forecast in advance and crews were ready, already restoring power to more than 500 customers this afternoon after the first line of thunderstorms caused damage. Crews will keep working to restore power to about 3,000 customers. Forecasters say thunderstorms will be followed by gusty winds across the state lasting through early Saturday morning, which could cause more outages later this evening into tonight. The winds will be strongest in southeast Vermont.
“Crews are working as quickly as safely possible and we will be there for customers. Safety is key for everyone and we want customers to be alert to changing conditions with the forecast through the weekend. Always stay far away from downed lines, and never drive over water covered roads,” said Mike Burke, Chief Field Operations Executive for GMP. “The potential for flooding and gusty winds can make travel difficult for anyone – customers and crews.”
GMP is also reminding customers of some basic tips for any storm – have a fully charged cell phone, bottled water, battery-powered flashlights, emergency phone numbers, and a plan of where to go if you were to need to leave your home. For medical emergencies, always call 911. You can find more storm safety tips on GMP’s website. You can report outages by calling 888-835-4672, through GMP’s online Outage Center, and through GMP’s app.
