Heavy Rain and Lightning Are Expected as Bands of Storms Move In Friday Afternoon and Evening
COLCHESTER, Vt. – Green Mountain Power (GMP) is reminding customers to be alert to possible thunderstorms statewide Friday afternoon and evening. Forecasters are calling for bands of lightning, heavy rain and the possibility of strong gusty winds as the storms move across the state from the west to east. GMP has been tracking multiple forecasts for days and will respond as quickly and safely as possible to any outages. There could be multiple rounds of storms through late tonight.
Travel could be hazardous and slow during this timeframe – lightning is never safe, strong winds can turn branches into projectiles, and the forecasted rain could also cause some localized road flooding. GMP is urging safety for customers and reminding them to stay away from any downed lines or trees. Also, due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, GMP made operations adjustments to increase safety for customers and crews including physical distancing and masks. GMP is also encouraging customers to maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from crews, following CDC social distancing guidelines for the health and safety of everyone. Call GMP for assistance at (888) 835-4672, and call 911 for a medical emergency.
Customers can also report outages online.
