Meteorologists Now Calling for Wetter, Heavier Precipitation in Parts of Vermont
19 January 2019
COLCHESTER, Vt. – Green Mountain Power is ready to respond to possible outages starting tonight as a major snowstorm rolls into Vermont. GMP has been tracking multiple forecasts for days in advanced preparation for this storm. Earlier forecasts for light, fluffy, snow across Vermont shifted this afternoon, and now include some sleet, freezing rain and ice, which could weigh down snow-covered trees and powerlines, possibly leading to outages. Bennington and Windham counties in southern Vermont are most at risk for possible outages if these new forecasts play out.
“We want to share the latest information with our customers so they can be prepared. Safety is our number one priority and we have been planning for this possible shift in the forecast. We’re ready to respond to outages if they happen,” said Mike Burke, GMP’s Field Operations Chief.
GMP is reminding customers to stay away from any downed lines or trees, to only operate generators outside, and to keep any heating or exhaust vents at their homes clear of snow. People should also be safe, as travel is also expected to be treacherous as snow continues overnight Saturday and all-day Sunday.
You can report outages and get restoration times in GMP’s Outage Center.
