GMP Customers Save Thousands When They Say Goodbye to Fossil Fuel and Choose Geothermal for Home Heating and Cooling
GMP Partner Innovative Geothermal System Maker Dandelion Energy Expands Into Vermont, Starting in Bennington County
COLCHESTER, Vt. – Green Mountain Power (GMP) is offering customers an instant rebate worth thousands of dollars when they purchase and install a qualified geothermal whole-home heating and cooling system from Dandelion Energy, an innovative company dedicated to making renewable technologies more accessible for all. The highly efficient system is fossil-fuel-free and combats the second-largest source of carbon pollution in Vermont – how we heat our homes and businesses.
“Geothermal is a super-efficient, sustainable way to heat and cool your home, and Dandelion’s expansion into Vermont means even more choice for our customers looking to do that without fossil fuel,” said Mari McClure, president and CEO of GMP. “Their simplified approach will make it easier for customers, and we’re so excited to empower them with another great option to reduce their carbon footprints.”
The geothermal heat pump system is a game changer, as it is a complete fossil fuel swap out, replacing your home’s existing heating and cooling equipment with a heat pump that uses underground pipes to move heat stored in the ground into your home during the winter and move heat from your home into the ground to provide cooling in the summer. Dandelion Energy brought an innovative approach to the technology, and has strategically enhanced all aspects of the installation process, to simplify the customer experience and increase affordability.
“I’ve been waiting for this! I’ve been following Dandelion for a couple of years, hoping they’d expand into Vermont,” said Peter Chipello, who is planning to build a new home in Shaftsbury, Vt. for his retirement. “We want our new home to be net zero, and their product just makes sense – for sustainability, for the environment, and for the practical economics of the project. It is great that GMP has this program to help customers decarbonize and save.”
To start, Dandelion will be working with customers in southern Vermont’s Bennington County, with plans to expand, providing consultations, planning and installation and service for their heating and cooling systems.
“We could not be more excited to partner with Green Mountain Power to bring geothermal energy to Vermont,” said Michael Sachse, Dandelion CEO. “Geothermal heating and cooling is clean, efficient, and comfortable. It helps homes electrify and move away from fuel oil. It can cost more up front, but Green Mountain Power has helped remove that barrier with this new rebate for consumers. Vermont, here we come!”
GMP will be offering an incentive of $1,800 per ton that is based on the system’s heating output, and Efficiency Vermont is offering an additional $300, for a combined $2,100 per ton. A typical whole-home system is about 4 tons. Dandelion will apply the discounts directly to the customer’s purchase price to make it simple to switch from fossil fuel to clean energy.
The instant rebates build on GMP’s longstanding commitment to empower customers to transform the way they use energy, by offering rebates and programs to help cut carbon emissions and costs. GMP’s popular cold climate heat pump program has helped more than 8,000 Vermonters switch to clean electricity and away from primarily fossil fuel for their heating last year.
