In-Home L2 Car Charger
To receive your Level 2 charger you need to:
- be a customer of GMP with a new or used AEV;
- own your home or have landlord approval;
- have reliable internet access; and
- the Vermont DMV Registration must have your active GMP account address.
Your car should take approximately 4-6 hours to charge, and will depend on the size of the battery in the car.
Charging at home saves you time and money. Our home charging program gives you access to GMP’s discount EV charging rates, which work out to be like paying about $1.20/gallon for gas.
Yes, as long as installation of the electrical outlet meets the required specifications.
The best time to charge your EV is later in the night or early morning, avoiding peak energy time. This will help keep costs down for everyone.
Home Energy Storage
If you choose the monthly payment, a $55 charge will show up on each monthly GMP statement. If you pay up-front, a $5,500 charge will appear on the next monthly statement.
No. As a participant in the program, you pay for your net energy usage. Any energy metered when you charge the battery will be subtracted from your total when it is discharged back to the grid.
Yes, during an outage Powerwall can recharge with solar energy from a new or existing solar system. This extends your backup power for protection during extended outages.
Your two Powerwalls will provide 16 to 24 hours of backup power for your whole home when there’s an outage. If you have a home solar system installed, the Powerwall will continue to charge during a grid outage so long as the sun is shining. In this case, if solar conditions are good, your home could have backup power for a longer period of time.
The pilot program requires customers who rely on life-saving or other critical equipment have a separate backup for that equipment because the pilot program involves sharing your stored energy during peak usage times which can deplete your battery, and because some outages can take longer to repair than the charge available in your battery. If you have an emergency or critical concerns, call 9-1-1.
Powerwalls can often be installed alongside generators with manual or automatic transfer switches. As part of your system design, Tesla can explore options with you. The Powerwalls will not charge from the generator, but the two systems can work together to keep your home powered in an outage.
When the utility power grid is online, GMP will control your Powerwall so you will not be able to customize how your EV is charged. However, during a utility power outage you can not only power your home but if there is surplus Powerwall energy, you can top off your EV.
At the end of 10 years, you owe no more money as part of the program. The Powerwall will remain in your home and provide backup power for an additional 5 years or until the end of its useful life. You can also request for the removal of the Powerwall once the 10-year program ends. GMP will remove the Powerwall at no additional cost to you so that it can be recycled.
Only the owner of the home can participate in the program. If you rent your home, consider asking your landlord if they are willing to participate in the program and install Powerwall. The owner of the home would need to pay program charges on their GMP energy statement.
The Powerwall is designed not to impact the regular operation of the solar system. Adding a Powerwall under this program will not change your existing Net Energy Metering (NEM) treatment.
If you are going to sell your home, GMP will work with you to transfer participation to the next homeowner. If the new owner does not wish to participate in the program, participation will need to be cancelled and there will be a $450 charge to remove Powerwall.
GMP will own Powerwall. This is necessary for GMP to deliver value to the grid and all customers. You can always purchase a Powerwall on your own, outside the GMP program.
As owner of Powerwall, GMP will be responsible. If you experience an issue with Powerwall, you should contact the Green Mountain Power Energy Services Team at 1-888-835-4672. If you choose to install solar with your Powerwall, the warranty and maintenance of the solar system will be managed separately from the battery, per the agreements associated with the solar purchase and install.
For best performance, Tesla installs Powerwalls indoors. The team will work with you to find the best location for your batteries.
GMP shared access means we partner with customers to leverage the value of the Tesla Powerwall 2 to return energy to the grid at peak times to provide cost savings to all our customers.
