- GMP urges customers to be alert to changing conditions as a heavy wet snow storm heads to Vermont
- In addition to internal crews, GMP has lined up extra crews
- Safety tips for all seasons are available at www.greenmountainpower.com/safety/
COLCHESTER, Vt. – Green Mountain Power (GMP) is urging customers to stay safe and be alert to changing weather conditions as forecasters call for a storm to hit Vermont starting Sunday afternoon, bringing the possibility of heavy wet snow, especially in higher elevations, tonight into Monday. When waterlogged snow accumulates, it can weigh down trees and damage lines, causing outages.
“We track multiple forecasts and work with meteorologists who specifically forecast for utilities so we can be prepared to respond as quickly as safely possible for customers. In addition to our own crews, we have lined up extra crews if damaging weather arrives as forecasted,” said Mike Burke, GMP’s vice president of field operations. “Safety is a top priority, and conditions will vary depending on elevation according to current forecasts. Be safe on the road if you need to drive and stay far away from any downed line or tree.”
Here are safety reminders for before, during, and after storms:
- Pay attention to the weather forecast and changing conditions
- Stay far away from any downed lines
- Always assume downed lines and trees are energized – you cannot tell by looking at them
- Call GMP to report downed lines
- Call 911 for medical emergencies
- Call Vermont 211 for help with emergency housing and more
Using the GMP app is a convenient way to report outages, track restoration, and manage your GMP account. Signing up for GMP Text Alerts sends storm and restoration updates to your cellphone. You can also report outages through the Outage Center on GMP’s website or call GMP at 888-835-4672. More storm preparation and safety tips are available on GMP’s website.
