Public Hearing on Energy Storage and BYOD Tariffs

GMP recently proposed two new energy storage programs for our customers that will allow you to install energy storage devices (batteries) at home, providing increased reliability during outages, and reduced costs for all GMP customers.  The first program allows customers to lease from GMP and install Tesla Powerwall batteries for a one-time, up-front or monthly fee. The second program allows customers to select a battery provider that meets GMP’s technical specifications, purchase that equipment directly or lease it from another company, and receive an up-front incentive from GMP for allowing that equipment to be used for peak shaving in the program.

These proposed programs are based on our recent successful Tesla Powerwall Pilot program and our Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Pilot Program. GMP has now proposed to make these permanent offerings through approved tariffs. At this time, participation in each of these new programs will be limited to approximately 500 customers per year, and will be on a first come first served basis for customers who qualify under the terms outlined in each proposed tariff.

The Public Utility Commission will be holding a public hearing on our new proposed Energy Storage and Bring Your Own Device tariffs on October 16 at 6:30 PM at the Unitarian Church of Montpelier, located at 130 Main Street in Montpelier.
